Before you begin to memorize the song, make sure you can play it well while reading the sheet music. The use of a metronome is recommended. When you feel comfortable enough to start, some of the most important things to pay attention to are the tempo, time signature, key signature, accidental sharps/flats/naturals, and dynamics. You don't need to memorize the whole song at once; take it one measure at a time and add more as you go. I hope my suggestions are helpful. =)
