Default Purchasing a Car

So I'm looking to buy a car in Ontario (Ottawa to be specific, but there shouldn't be any difference when you buy a car anywhere in Ontario).

I am still quite unsure on the process of purchasing a vehicle.

I will most likely buy from a dealership to save myself some trouble.

I know in Calgary, when my parents bought their car, the dealership put the plates on the car if you request them to, however I do not know about Ontario.

Also, after purchasing the vehicle, you will have to take the VIN number to the registry and register it under your name and then you have to purchase insurance using that VIN number as well before you can drive it home, is that correct?

I know I'm looking at about $3000 for insurance at this age and with only a G2 license and since my parents' names won't be on the car, insurance will be expensive. Where is a company that would be insuring this kind of driver?

I'm thinking the process of buying a car is something like this:
1. Research on Car(s)
2. Find dealership/seller with car(s)
3. Check the car, inside and out, test drive, spot for problems
4. Purchase the car if you are satisfied
5. Register car in your name
6. Purchase insurance for car
7. Get the car...

If anyone has anything else to add, please do. This is the first time buying a car and I don't feel like asking my parents.
