Default Jumping Mayday Confirms Popularity

Jumping Mayday Confirms Popularity

Now is one of those times when music fans wish their idols could visit their city one by one instead of performing on the same day. Going to either show means sacrificing the chance to see the other.

On Saturday night, pop music fans in Shanghai were offered the chance to see either cantopop singer Sammi Cheng, or a grand chapter of Taiwan pop-rock band Mayday's "Jump! The World Tour."

It might have been a hard decision for some, but around 80,000 fans chose the later with ease, wanting to see the energetic Mayday jump around on stage.

During the three-hour show held at the Shanghai Stadium, constant waves of singing involving all audience members was generated while the five Mayday members performed live versions of their best-known hits.

For this impressive night during their world tour, which has taken them to several Asian and North American cities, Mayday spent millions of yuan on special stage effects. They utilized 15 thousand tonnes of equipment that was flown in from Taiwan, and an LED screen as large as three basketball courts.

Although the band has been around for a decade, its popularity keeps soaring among mainland fans, with twenty-somethings making up the majority of their fan base.

Since their Shanghai show in 2004 which was attended by a crowd of 8,000, Mayday took only three years to secure an audience of 10 times that number.

A report on the website sina.com said that ticket sales for Saturday's show created a new record.

hmm...i never really heard of them b4...altho, i rarely listen to TW band nowdays. cuz it seems there are new bands each yr and then they disband very quick...it's like the duration of a rose blossom and then dies. if i have to choose between Mayday and Sammi, i will definitely choose Sammi!
