ATV Launches Controversial Poll To Poke Fun At TVB

ATV's special production Tribute to Hong Kong TV Industry 50th Anniversary <電視風雲50年> announced last week that it will be holding a satirical vote for the Year of the Pig TV Industry Events Selection (豬年電視風雲選舉) and nominations in each of the categories include artistes and celebrities from all of the TV stations, including TVB and i-Cable.

TVB general manager Stephen Chan (陳志雲) has been nominated in a number of categories, including Most Controversial TV Star, Most Out-of-line TV Star, Most Over-exposed TV Star and TV Star with the Most Gossip.

The series host Vinci Wong (王賢誌) has openly poked fun at Stephen in the past and at the revealing of the nominations, he said that the vote will take place on the internet and will fully reflect the opinions of the public, so he led the way by voting for Stephen in a number of categories and also for Fala Chen (陳法拉) in the TV Newcomer award. Vinci himself also appears in the nomination for the Most Gossip category, but he insisted that he did not have as much gossip as Stephen last year.

With such tongue-in-cheek categories for the poll, it seems that this selection is an attempt by ATV to poke fun at TVB's expense, but Vinci defended the show, saying that similar polls often appear in magazines and they are simply copying the same format, but because the poll involves ATV's direct competitors, it is being portrayed as controversial. He insists that the results will only reflect the feelings of the viewers. He added that if Stephen does win any of the awards, they will contact him for comment and he will be welcome to appear on the show if he wishes. However, when she heard him say this, co-host Eileen Cha (查小欣) clarified that that he may not allowed to attend.

When asked if Lo Hoi Pang (盧海鵬) would appear to perform his impression of Stephen, Vinci said that this would not happen because theirs is not a comedy show.

Other celebrities who have been nominated include celebrity blogger and TVB challenger Erica Yuen (袁彌明), ATV anchorman Kenneth Chan (陳啟泰) and promotion queen Suki Chui (徐淑敏).

ATV is just a nuisance. First they try to steal tvb stars and now they are poking fun at them. ATV is just getting ridiculous
