Default Ice: good or bad for the skin?

Is it good or bad for your skin if you rub ice on your face. What does ice do to your face, help it or hurt it?
If it helps it, how often should you do it, and when? (Before of after washing face?)

I would go for cool water rather than "cold" ice. The face gets exposed to many climates, and shocking it, regardless of cooling the heat or not, is not a good long-term choice.."I think".

THink of facing the winters: True, exposing your face for a "long" time will chap it, but icing it may do the same, creating winter burns. Oh well, I don't think there is a study out regarding your practice. Then again, I would rather be safe, and use the alternative, cool water instead.
