Anyone donated blood before?

i didnt know where to put this, so i guess this is the closest board to this topic.

anywaies, i want to go donate blood...but i'm scared of needles and stuff, and lk, what if it hurts? so i just want to know how its like.

i never tried it b4. the thought of it make me nervous. esp cuz i'm terrified of needles.

nope.. cause i am scared of it.. but i think it is god to donate ur blood.. especially if u have the odd bloodtype.. keep some spare for yourself in the future.. n its good to donate blood as it will clean ur blood

before thinking of going to the facility. Make sure you are eligible first.

several criteria:
-generally healthy looking (no alcohol or drugs or cold symptoms or any infections)

-weigh > 110 lbs. (55 kg), and your hematocrit (Red cell percentage) must be in the normal range (~38-45%).

-temperature should not exceed 99.5F or 37.5C

-pulse = 50-100 beats/min

-Blood pressure ~180/100

-have not travelled to malarial endemic areas (asia, Africa, ...) past 3 yrs...

whole blood donation does not hurt much. Once the needle is in the vein, you are made comfy, btw. you get to watch movies and have breakfast of choice afterwards too.

time interval between donations = 8 weeks (56 days)

we have people come to the school to see if people wants to donate blood. but since i'm not old enough i cant do so. its just a needle and it wouldnt hurt to bad. i'm sure everyone been though more pain then a needle and it only lasts a while

i plan on dontaing blood when im slightly more older if i can.. lol.. but this shouldnt hurt, if youve had pass injections with needles, its kind of like that, just a small prick to get the needle into your arm, then through that needle, they apply a tube to it and take either a pint of your blood out. Afterwards you might feel a bit woozy... and the nurse will give you certain advice, like dont do anything for a few hours, go home and rest.. eat well or something like that.
