mac uses intel hardware now, so it really just boils down to intel vs amd. amd beat intel in both value and performance before intel came out with the core processors, but rite now amd still has better values compared to intel.

well for general use just buy an AMD seeing that it is cheaper.. but buy intel if you want to use your computer for a specific use.. it really depends on what you are using your computer for..

both are good. Amd has been making Windows processors for more than 15 years, and they haven't had any problems Intel was the first so that is why there name is bigger. Right now Intel with Core 2 Duo is winning the performance race. AMD is slightly behind with X2.
If you are looking for a general system then either would be fine, surfing the net, excel and word. If you are looking for a performance system get a custom built system.

I recently purchased an Intel core 2 quad chip within a reasonable price and it runs flawlessly, although its not the newest chip out in the market, it is definitely really reliable, I would go for it instead of AMD chip with similar performance. Yet if you want to spend a bit less, just use AMD, it really won't make a whole lot of difference for general purpose using.
