Is the internet a healthy escape valve?

I see people seek the Internet whenever they are troubled. There is so much online to keep people busy. There is movies, tv, art, culture, I wonder if people will stop interfacing socially and use the internet to devolve.

Almost everything is on the net.

But sometimes books are needed too cos they are things that are too specific to find on the net.
