Network problems.. internet slow?

I have an account with virgin media, it’s a 10mbs connection. IAt home I have the following set-up. A dsl model connected to a 3 com router/wireless which is then connected to a switch with 4 ports. On the 4 ports I 3 Ethernet wires – 2 connect to 2 pc’s (upstairs) running Win XP and 1 running Win Server 2003 and a laptop which I gain access through the wireless router. I have contacted virgin media and they argued that they did a network check and they did not find anything wrong. So I did a couple of test. I checked my pc’s for spyware.Nothing found. Checked for viruses-nothing found. Did speed tests if all machines are connected I get about 3mbs on each which is logical. I did a traceroute (ping) to the bbc website and that seemed ok I think the result was 10mms and 11 mms. Something like that. I Checked my router settings and I do not have anything upnormal checked –not any uneccessary firewall stuff-just the default settings+ wirelss security settings.

well, you did do all of the correct things. Cookies and viruses slow your comp down, run another scan just in case. defrag and all that happy bs. If its still running at 3mgs, then call them back and complain til they fix it by online or send someone to fix it. We argued and said that we were paying more that we were getting, and thye sent a guy over and fixed it for us for free since it was their fault after all. Threaten to cancel and tell every one what crappy customer care is there. They'll fix it if they value their company.

check for spyware also, and do not forget to unchecked windows automatic updates also other auto updates.

If you just feel the speed recently it might due to some cable failures happened recently. Some genius took their shortgun and shot down 5 optic fiber cables in US....

first check ur internet speed with Speakeasy

it may be there are to may subscribers in ur area

u could try checking all the computers with a speed tester, but one thing for sure is that if its a network the speed will be a little lower since its more than one pc using that one internet connection as its being shared or u could say its equally sharing the internet speed.
