I came across this yesterday.

When I posted it on other groups I belong to, one person added this (in a UK context):
'The other thing they're being used for, apparently, is to check up on potential employees and students (the latter being mentioned on the news last week).'
This is a potentially dangerous issue for all of us here, and I feel strongly enough about it to "waste" five points to post this as a question, as there appears to be no other way to communicate this to everybody. If you have any experience, yours or a friend's, or have heard of other dangers please share them with us.

from what i hear this is usually not the case (where potential or current employers will "google" you for you online identities) unless it is a high up job or perhaps the company had issues in the past with people who were using the net in their personal lives for malicious things. i still feel this is an invasion of privacy

as for students, i feel strongly again that this is an even bigger intrusion on privacy. this is a huge issue in america - people just cant let kids grow up themselves without being policed 24/7
