We had talked about his dreams sometimes consisting of our first time, so while we were saying good night, he said this. We had also decided to wait at least 2 years to have sex. P.s. Some of the things he says sound cheesy, but not because he means it that way. English isn't his first language. Which is why the "duty" thing sounds odd.

Sometimes guys act this way so that they can get into our pants. They want to be seen as "perfect gentleman" so that we will want them more.
However... there are some guys out there that are gentleman and want to be good to their women.
It's really hard to say. That is why I don't like online relationships.
