I am looking for a music program that will allow layering of virtual instruments to make a song?

e.g: A keyboard on the screen that I can play a tune, and then within the computer change the music into a drumbeat or a sax. And then layer that music.

Audacity is the way to go man. 100% free. Easy to use and does pretty much what you asked for :-P Best wishes!

hmm thts complicated... LOL i dun think tht will be easy to work... LOL but umm... i was gunna suggest the mboxmini, protools, reason... but ehhh out of topic am i not? LOL since those arent on screen... but yeah the pros do it tht way`

u could also try guitar pro if ur goign for a more rock feel

um...the guitar pro has numerous instruments...not just guitar
but it's a great program to use if u ARE using guitar

if you have a mac, maybe try garage band?

or try Adobe Audition
that is also good too.
my radio club uses that to edit our shows and dramas.
great to splitting sound and stuff
