My PS2 for a few years now has been giving Disc Read Errors (DRE) gradually more and more. It was my brothers so I don't know exactly when it began. It stopped playing DVDs, then PS2 coloured bottomed discs. I'm not sure if it still plays CDs, but it still plays the silver bottomed discs. It was one of the first PS2 consoles out, I know that they have problems. Since it's been long out of warranty I don't want to send it in to Sony. I also don't want to crack open the case, because my Dad (who would be doing it) has broken everything relating to a PS that I've asked him to fix. I've tried using one of those laser lens cleaners, but the box won't even read that. There is a heap of dust in it, so I know that it needs a clean out, but I don't feel confident in cleaning it, and I fear my dad even touching it.
Is there any other way to clean it out without opening it up?
Or any other way to make it play the blue discs? (Most of my games are blue)
