Hey everyone! I was just curious what you do in your English classes (assuming you have one) and what tpes of books you read in school for class. In my AP Lit class, we basically read a piece of literature and discuss and analyze it. Here are some of the books I've read for class (not all this year):
The Scarlet Letter, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Hamlet, The Stranger, Joy Luck Club, Bless Me Ultima, Lord of the Flies, Brave New World, Narrative on te Life of Frederick Douglass, The Great Gatsby, The Grapes of Wrath, Of Mice and Men, The Catcher in the Rye, The Awakening, Ethan Frome, Death of a Salesman, The Pictrue of Dorian Gray, I know Why the Caged Bird Sings, To Kill a Mockingbird

We do random things in English, depending on what the teacher feels like.
As for literature studies, we're studying All Quiet on the Western Front, Animal Farm and The Odyssey
Recently though, we are reading War poems and writing an anthology about it.

we do diffrent things. learning new terms, vocab and preparing for pre-ap tests and getting ready for ap english.
we've read
Rebecca (the most boring pointless book)
Fahrenheit 451 (it was pretty good)
Night (I never finished since i ended up switching teachers because of science)
The Odyssey (I dont get it)
We read short pieces too and have to annotate and answers questions to for preparation in future english and whatever else the teacher wants i guess. oh yea, and we write a bunch too

im suppose to read books but i just go to sparknotes and read chapter summaries. i was suppose to read so far
The Catcher in the Rye
The Great Gatsby
To Kill a Mockingbird
Ethan Frome
12 Angry Men
i didnt find any of the books interesting but i didnt really read them either :/
im also suppose to practice writing essays for regents which are ny state exams. the teacher even knows the whole class just sparknotes the books so she doesnt really care anymore. in class she just keeps going over the important points so we dont have to read them.

I think English class is quite fun sometimes because my teacher ... she's very hyper all the time. I don't really know what's up with her but she lightens up the class with laughs everyday. Well ... at least I always crack up on her jokes. LMAOS
English is also referred to as Global Literature in my school ... dunno about any other schools .. o_o
Anyway, we usually just interpret the texts and find the deeper meaning. My teachers call this "digging deep". We hold many .. "deep" discussions about how the society affects an individual and other stuff relating to the word society. Gets really philosophical in that room .... o_o
Books that I remember reading in the 9th & 10th grade for English class were The Catcher in the Rye, Epic of Gilgamesh, The Odyssey, Speak (and other modern novels), Romeo & Juliet, Haiku, Mistress of Spices (and other Indian novels), Lord of the Flies, all types of poetry, The Inferno, Woman at Point Zero, Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight (and other African novels), House of the Spirits (love this book to DEATH!), and recently finished Night.
