Really irritates me when I overhear people (usually Asian, meh) quarreling over the price when the salesperson already gave a 10% discount to them...

Sometimes, only if I am in Hong Kong. Of course, in those not formal stores. But retail stores, I just go to each electronic/product store to compare prices and if they are giving anything for free. Everybody loves to get free stuff. In US, I don't really bargain because you can't really unless you buy a vehicle.

In India most of the shop keepers already add high % of profits considering that customers will bargain and if they dont than they suffer more.

Me too, I don't bargain. Although there are stores that will lower that price if they see that you're losing interest in an item that will be going on sale soon. My friend got a $140 camera bag for $40-$50 and a $90 tripod for $40.

I only bargain when I buy from street vendors or small boutiques
that you would find in malls. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain if you do get the discount.

Depends where i am in. If in HK or China, definitely bargain on street vendors and such. Other places, just pay and leave.

even though in the us, eveything is fixed price supposedly... I will always try and get some kind of discount esp when buying stuff from an asian store. usually cash will always get me some kind of discount.

i do in shanghai markets and other marketplaces where you actually can bargain..it´s really stupid NOT to bargain when you actually can do it..why then buy something that you can lower the price than paying a fortune which is so not worth it??

I'll definitely bargain if there's a chance for it. But living in Boston, there's no such chance. But whenever there's a chance for me to go to New York. Of course I bargain. But I'm not a pushy person. I usually ask for the price and ponder over it for a minute and then say to them I don't want the item. They immediately give you a cheaper price so I'll take it at that moment. I only do it if I think it's a reasonable price to bargain about.

I usually do it but it and I usually get it whenever I bargain. But I don't quarrel if the store owner or keeper doesn't agree with my bargain I just leave it so they would just resort to give the price I like most of the time.

depends on wat type of things r u buying.. if we went for electronic like laptops/computer stuff.. it is a must to bargain.. cause they usually will set a higher price.. u can get 50% discount or more than that

haha I bargain at places where it's acceptable.. like hk or china but not malls or anything.. because vendors really do raise prices if they see that youre a tourist... ==
But there was this really big sale in one store, where clothes have been marked down like 2 times already... and I really liked this dress but it was quite badly damaged in one area.. (but i knew how to fix it, except i'd have to pay for the materials to fix it).. so I ended up getting 30 or 40 % off.. i don't really remember.. == but I do think it's reasonable to bargain if something is damaged or if you know that they are obviously overcharging you.. ~
