How do you verify a facebook account in the uk?

Hi there I'm new to facebook and having a whale of a time trying to verify my account. When you click to verify your account with a mobile phone there's now prefix number for the uk and having tried facebook's own technicians several times I've now given up trying so I thought I'd turn to some more knowledgeable folk.
