My MSI K9N-NeoF board dont have a IDEs for the harddrive. Only 4 sata and one IDE port for the optical drive.

My question, can i swap the dvd drive with an IDE harddrive? i just need 2 quicky transfer files. Will it cause any harm or do need 2 change jumper?

I hav 1 80GB seagate, sata.

no flppy
1GB DDR2

thanks.

okay, i just remember a thing.

1 ide cable can fit 2 ide device. Mine is 80wire wire.

so, i used primary as dvd burner and secondary as the harddrive.

however, it works..it shows up in My Computer.

but, after a while, the pc bcomes very laggy. Even browsing in explorer is laggy and often hangs.

When the harddrive is removed, everyhitng is normal again. How do i correct this?

thanks again!

If you only want to temporarily connect your HDD to xfer files... try disconnecting your DVDrom and using the HDD as master.

Is this an old HDD? Just out of curiosity, when you right click it and check properties, what does it say beside file system? I'm not sure it makes any difference though.
