Building a New Computer

Over the summer months, I am going to build myself a computer from parts.

Do you have any sort of Recommendations for the following parts?

Power Supply
Processor
Motherboard
Video Card
Sound Card (5.1)
TV Tuner Card

My price range is $1000 CDN - $1500 CDN

I have monitor, keyboard and mouse, and speakers

We need to know what you're building your computer for. Day to day stuff, gaming, workstation, media centre, etc...

For day to day stuff, you can build a cheap one for around $500-600. Gaming or workstation would cost a lot more.

This is multifunction

Mainly, this will be used for... well... almost everything.

Anything from a Media Center to watch movies.
I use it for some gaming too
Video and Photo Editing.

So... pretty much everything..

Alright, that's still hard to say. I'm going to guess you will just watch movies on your normal monitor and not stream it to HDTV or anything. By "some" gaming I'm guessing you won't be pushing it too hard with the newest games. So basically.. you just want an ordinary computer.

I'd recommend just getting a core2duo, and an ATI AIW. I don't know much about sound cards. The rest isn't that important. Just buy whatever works and is cheap.

That depends... I might actually get some new games... and I probably would too... FPS or Flight Sims. So... lets factor in gaming.

So basically you are going to put parts into a tower case!

Power Supply: buy a standard p4 case[p/supply is included usually 300w]
Processor: intel pentium d 3.4ghz
Motherboard: asus or gigabyte - 800mhz fsb, supports both ddr/ddr2, 1 agp, 5pci
Video Card: radeon/nvidia 256mb is sufficient
Sound Card (5.1): any sound blaster card
TV Tuner Card: your choice

Power Supply - anything with or over 400W (trust me, lots of the new things use up quite a bit)
Processor - c2d if u can, if not just an amd dual core
Motherboard - any mobo that supports things that you're plugging in
Video Card - 256 + mb ones, right now i think geforce 7800 is more in ur price range
Sound Card (5.1) - not sure, depends if u want quality sound
TV Tuner Card - never used one so i dunno
RAM - minimum 1 gig

(Corsair FTW!)
HD - i'm sure you can do this one yourself lol

note : make sure you can plug your monitor in your video card lol and make sure all your stuff are all compatible with each other

I agree with you guys mostly...

Case and PSU - Get an Antec case and it will come with a decent power supply. ~$150
Processor - Intel Core2Duo ~$250
Mobo - ~$120-150 (you just need one that works really)
Video Card - ATI X1950T ~ $260
Sound Card - Sound Blaster Audigy 7.1 ~$35 (also works for 5.1 I believe)
TV Tuner - Some cheap ~$35 should be ok
RAM - 1GB Cheap stuff for ~$100

That should be around $1k, taxes included in my estimation

Hopefully you'll let us know if you need something more or something less
